abstract	The article focuses on the case study of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France (inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1998) offering the peculiarity of belonging to the category of cultural routes. The author returns to the fact that this category of cultural property was initiated by our Spanish colleagues, who, following the classification of the French route of St. Jacques de Compostela in 1993, led a leading international theoretical reflection a charter and recognition of sites of great magnitude.
