bibo:abstract "The ICOMOS International Scientific Committee for\r\nStone (ISCS) is providing a forum for the interchange of\r\nexperience, ideas, and knowledge in the field of stone\r\nconservation. ISCS aims at facilitating the publication,\r\ndissemination and presentation of state of the art\r\nreviews on pre-identified issues. Simplification and\r\ndemystification of scientific information for practitioners\r\nare also part of the main goals of the group.\r\nIn studies on stone deterioration and conservation, terminological\r\nconfusions lead to major communication\r\nproblems between scientists, conservators and practitioners.\r\nIn this context, it is of primary importance to set\r\nup a common language; if degradation patterns can be\r\nshown, named and described, then they can be recognised\r\nand compared with similar ones in a more accurate\r\nway in further investigations.\r\nThe ISCS glossary constitutes an important tool for\r\nscientific discussions on decay phenomena and processes.\r\nIt is also an excellent basis for tutorials on stone\r\ndeterioration. It is based on the careful examination of\r\npre-existing glossaries of English terms. It does not aim\r\nat replacing these glossaries, often set up originally in a\r\nlanguage other than English, and for most of them done\r\nto a high standard."^^xsd:string;
