Abstract (in English)

At the base of the conservation of cultural heritage there is a problem of knowledge. The concept of knowledge of an asset is subject to the presence of a value. All this is part of a broader debate in which may be incurred different points of view. At the beginning of last century Alois Riegl (1903) suggested some interpretations of the concept of value, emphasizing the need of his knowledge in every project phase. Today the business environment that dominates the Western world tends to pollute this debate, so it becomes increasingly important to deepen the study of cultural issues that determine the motivation in terms of which we tend to define these values. The criticality of the situation is reflected on the problem of architectural restoration in which there will also be a structural problem when decisions are faced with the demands, often antithetical, the seismic safety.
