The paper analyzes the work of the Sicilian artist Vincenzo Ragusa, teacher and sculptor in Japan in the late nineteenth century. Ragusa worked near the School of Art (Bijutsu Gakkô) of Tokyo and of Yokohama 1876-1882. Much documentation is conserved in the collection of the University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts.
