Abstract (in English)

Understanding the close relationship between Panama City from its very origins and throughout the dynamics of its development, and the South Sea now called Pacific Ocean, is fundamental in order to comprehend the incommensurable value that Panama City holds for Humanity as a whole, gathered under the World Heritage Convention originated in 1972 under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). I mean its Outstanding Universal Value. Panama City's position as a port city and as such, open to exchange of cultural values, architectural tendencies, ways of living and especially open to commerce, shaped Panama city. Panama Viejo and the Historic District of Panama are both under the same inscription on the World Heritage List because they are two phases of the same metropoli, that continued its functions on both seats, at Panama Viejo as well as in the Historic District (Casco Antiguo).
