This monography is part of a series about various places around the world. This particular one was elaborated after Icomos' 11th General Assembly which took place in 1996. The importance of a legal framework for conservation of monuments and sites is highlighted in several chapters of the publication. Various types of cultural heritage present in South Africa are analyzed, from Underwater sites to urban heritage, and with of course a conservation approach.
