Abstract (in English)

Looking at the archaeological site of Chichen-Itza in Mexico, the paper brings out the official spirit of the place, born from archaeology and the subaltern spirit born from the indigenous Mayan culture. The identification of a plurality of spirits reveals however an unbalanced power relation between these spirits. The paper tries to historically identify the origins of the current imblance and suggests strategies to overcome this imbalance, some that can be applied to other similar cases.
