Résumé (en anglais)

The Gotthard Base Tunnel will open at the end of 2016. As a result, historic traffic routes, from mule tracks to the railway line and motorway, will take on a new significance. Is that unique transport and cultural landscape worth the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site? What is its tourism potential? To what extent is the Gotthard transport landscape a key to Swiss identity? This interdisciplinary symposium calls on historians, railway specialists, monument conservators, politicians, and tourism experts to make recommendations for action, preservationists, politicians and tourism experts to make recommendations for the future of the Gotthard transport landscape. Visions and potentials will be discussed with the interest groups involved.
