Résumé (en anglais)

Easter Island in the southeast Pacific Ocean is both a national and an international resource. In 1935 the Chilean government declared the island an open air museum in recognition of the significance and importance of its extensive archaeological monuments. These include the ceremonial complexes. In the 1960' studies of the archaeological remains were sponsored by UNESCO and the International Fund for Monuments. In the reports from these studies concern was expressed over the need to protect the monuments of the "Old World" from major construction works.
