Résumé (en anglais)

The increasing destruction of our heritage is a consequence of technological change, pollution, greed and neglect, together with a heightened appreciation of the past that makes its relics ever more precious and popular, and hence at risk. At the same time, the past we seek to preserve and reconstruct has expanded in time, in space, and in content, and now includes a wider range of structures and artifacts than ever before. Not even these additions satisfy modern nostalgia, however, and much history is fabricated to meet the growing demand.
