Abstract (in English)

The contribution describes objectives, research programme and preliminary results of an investigation into the influence of atmospheric pollution on the degradation of natural stone building objects in situ, in which several organisations, both Swiss and foreign, collaborate. Since sulphurous compounds are the most harmful components of atmospheric pollution for natural stone the rate of accumulation of air-borne sulphur is taken as a crikrion for the assessment of the impact of pollution.
