Abstract (in English)

In 1825 when frontiers dividing European states were permanently settled and most nations could develop their cultural heritage to define their identity, Poland, partitioned between Prussia, Russia and Austria, faced bleak prospects. Apprehensive of denationalization poles regarded architectonic designs and realizations introduced by the occupants as alien. There were limited inventories of building relics, more complete studies were instituted in the mid-nineteenth century when history of Polish art was acknowledged as a subject at Cracow's Jagiellon University.
