Abstract (in English)

The Philippines, a Spanish colony for over three centuries (1565-1898) has a wealth of colonial churches, a heritage yet barely studied. In very brief and general terms, this paper will attempt to to two things. First, discuss the conditiions which influenced church building in the country during the colonial era. Secondly, describe the colonial Filipino church, whose characteristics are a result of said conditions.
