Abstract (in English)

Honda, north of the department of Tolima in Colombia had a meaning from the conquest until the twentieth century that was beyond being another river port on the Magdalena River, to become the most important of all, with regard to the transport of people and merchandise, due to its strategic position in the interior of the country due to the abrupt topography that Colombia presented at that time. This is why the Magdalena River became the communication channel towards the interior of the country and, Honda, at the same time; it became the link or door of modernization of goods and people coming from Europe or the world. The main objective of this article is to establish historical development and catalog its traditions, as living expressions inherited from generation to generation around traditional fishing in the city of Honda as an ancestral trade, intrinsically connected to its natural environment through two periods in history, beginning with the Republican Period (XIX-XX) which constituted its heyday at the beginning of the 19th century and its subsequent decline in the middle of the 20th century in economic and social terms and we continue with the contemporaneity which will give us a Current panorama of these traditions in the middle basin of the Magdalena River. Consequently, traditional fishing establishes a close relationship between the material understood as the instruments used and the commercialization of the product for this work, and the immaterial that is intrinsically related to fishing techniques, traditions and customs that are woven around this trade inherited.
