Abstract (in English)

Proceedings of the symposium held in Le Havre, France, 5-7 December 1996. The development of reinforced concrete, from its origins until 1940 in particular, is presented throught the analysis. Then the problems of definition this material faced, in terms of aesthetic point of view, are treated. Its added-value to the French and Czech architectures in the twenties, in artists villas, historic monuments is also covered by the study. However, the reinforced concrete is subject to changes in its composition, and pathologies even arise, hereby analyzed by architects. In addition, the proceedings comprise an overview of the evolution of steel inside reinforced concrete, along with some conservation issues of damaged reinforced concrete have been mentioned.
