Abstract (in English)
Through the considerable work of the architect Pierre Prunet (1926-2005), this article exemplies his work for the restoration and the development of a great Abbey : Fontevraud Abbey in the West of France. This royal Abbey homes the gisants of Alienor of Aquitaine, of Richard the Lionheart and of some members of the Plantagenêt family. Between 1975 and 1994, Pierre Prunet (Chief Architect of the Historical Monuments - CAHM) is in charge of important works in this little monastic town which is reconverted in jail at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The restoration of the main cloister, also named Grand Moûtier, was the subject of a thorough architectural survey, involving all the energy and the talent of Pierre Prunet ; no doubt one of the famous CAHM of twentieth century with Yves-Marie Froidevaux. Some discords in the direction of Historical Monuments have prejudiced a part of the project designed by Pierre Prunet. This article relates that historic moment, in view of the theory of monuments restoration as fields of study.
