Abstract (in English)

The article is based on four projects in Lyons : old buildings restored and rehabilitated with varying degrees of intervention adapted to each case. One project (still unfinished) is also discussed : the house of Jacques-Joseph and Jean-François Champollion in Vif, near Grenoble, which must be restored an transformed into a place of memory. Through these examples, we will attempt to show how the restoration of old buildings in city centers (such as Lyon, World Heritage of UNESCO), may be part of a sustainable development objective. Although these projects are formally quite different, we find the same working method, a common theoretical approach. We project the existing in a global ecological approach. This leads, via the analysis and the project, to the understanding of the multiple values of architectural heritage (art and history value, authenticity, memory, creativity, urban and social role ...). The approach called «the critical and creative restoration», inherited from the School of Rome (Giovanni Carbonara) provides us with a set of guide lines that we often refer to.

L’article s’appuie sur 4 projets réalisés à Lyon : des immeubles anciens restaurés et réhabilités avec des degrés d’intervention adaptés à chaque cas. Un projet (encore inachevé) est aussi évoqué : la maison de Jacques-Joseph et Jean-François Champollion à Vif, près de Grenoble, qui doit être restaurée et transformée en lieu de mémoire. A travers ces exemples, nous tentons de montrer comment la restauration d’immeubles anciens dans le centre des villes (comme Lyon , patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO), peut s’inscrire dans un objectif de développement durable. Bien que ces projets soient formellement assez différents, on y retrouve une même méthode de travail, une approche théorique commune. Il s’agit de projeter l’existant dans une démarché écologique globale. Cela conduit, via l’analyse et le projet, à la compréhension des valeurs multiples du patrimoine architectural (valeur d’art et d’histoire, authenticité, mémoire, créativité, rôle social et urbain…). L’approche dite « de la restauration critique et créative », héritée de l’école de Rome (Giovanni Carbonara) constitue pour nous, un ensemble de lignes guides auxquelles nous faisons souvent référence.
