Abstract (in English)
Various programs have been put in place to protect Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The programme "Save Old Tbilisi" was one of them and was the first step towards creating a revitalisation project in one small quarter of Old Tbilisi, the Betlemi Quarter. The Betlemi Quarter was choosen for its rich historic background, the concentration of Tbilisian urban vernacular dwellings of high artistic value and the diversity of religious structures. Due to its peculiar topography, the Quarter is developed on three terraces sustained by historic supporting walls and connected with one another by a network of street-stairs. Additionaly, the Betlemi Quarter is a great representation of the heritage issues faced in the other quarters of Tbilisi. The following document focuses on the project of revitalisation of the Betlemi Quarter which lasted for over 10 years.
