Abstract (in English)

Throughout history, war has presented one of the most serious threats to cultural sites and artistic treasures. Sites and artworks embody a people's culture and genius - and constitute a most precious (and too often endangered) heritage of mankind. There is an importan link between peace and cultural preservation - a link too little understood.
