Abstract (in English)

The obligation to conserve and manage the heritage places and sites of the twentieth century is as important as our duty to conserve the significant cultural heritage of previous eras. The cultural heritage of the twentieth century is at risk from a lack of appreciation and care. Much has already been lost and more is in danger. It is a living, evolving heritage and it is essential to understand, conserve, interpret and manage it well for future generations. Approaches for the Conservation of Twentieth‐Century Cultural Heritage, seeks to contribute to the appropriate and respectful management of this important period of cultural heritage. While recognising existing heritage conservation documentsi, Approaches for the Conservation of Twentieth-Century Cultural Heritage identifies many of the issues specifically involved in the conservation of twentieth‐century heritage. It covers the full range of heritage typologies typically recognised as being worthy of conservation including architecture, structures, vernacular and industrial heritage, cultural landscapes including historic parks and gardens, historic urban landscapes, cultural routes and archeological sites. This document is intended for use by all those involved in heritage conservation and management processes that may impact twentieth-century heritage places and sites. Explanatory notes are incorporated where necessary and a glossary of terms completes the document.

Il dovere di conservare e gestire i luoghi e siti del patrimonio del XX secolo è altrettanto importante quanto il nostro dovere di conservare il significativo patrimonio culturale delle epoche precedenti. Il patrimonio culturale del XX secolo è a rischio per la mancanza di apprezzamento e cura. Molto già è andato perduto e molto altro è in pericolo. Si tratta di un patrimonio vivente ed in evoluzione, che è essenziale comprendere, conservare, interpretare e gestire correttamente per le generazioni future. Approcci per la conservazione del patrimonio architettonico del XX secolo vuole contribuire ad una gestione appropriata e rispettosa di questa importante fase del patrimonio culturale. Pur recependo i documenti esistenti riguardanti la conservazione del patrimonioi, Approcci per la conservazione del patrimonio culturale del XX secolo identifica molte delle questioni specificamente coinvolte nella conservazione del patrimonio del XX secolo. Esso copre l’intera gamma di tipologie di patrimonio tipicamente riconosciute come meritevoli di conservazione tra cui l’architettura, le strutture, il patrimonio vernacolare e industriale, i paesaggi culturali includendo anche i parchi ed i giardini storici, i paesaggi urbani storici, i percorsi culturali e i siti archeologici. Questo documento è destinato all’uso da parte di tutti coloro che sono coinvolti in processi di conservazione e gestione del patrimonio che potrebbero avere un impatto sui luoghi e siti del XX secolo. Nel documento sono incorporate note esplicative ove necessario e un glossario finale dei termini utilizzati.
