Abstract (in English)

The heritage potential of the Las Mercedes ridges: Confluence of communities and memories in the territory. Halfway between the Las Mercedes forest and the La Conejera wetland, and taking advantage of the erosive valley that forms the subtle but constant drainage of the water that is captured in this sector of the Thomas van der Hammen Nature Reserve, a set of ridges was built in the second semester of 2022 to experimentally recreate the hydraulic system of elevated crop fields, through which the ancient indigenous people sought to adapt and take advantage of the constant encounter of water with the land that has prevailed for millennia in much of the Bogotá Savanna. In the same way as these two essential elements come together to form the fertile substrate of the soil that has supported multiple forms of life and millions of human beings, it could be considered that in this experiment of recreating ridges and ditches the dimensions that make up what today we know as cultural heritage: the territory, the memories and the communities. That is to say that this work, although it is a recent recreation, is culturally significant and has the potential to be considered a space with special heritage values that should be managed and protected as such in the future.
